A vaccination appointment here is never just an injection. Your cat has a full health check first, and the vet uses what they find — alongside age, lifestyle and history — to decide what’s needed. Usually that means vaccinating as planned. Occasionally it means waiting until a cat is well, or picking up an early problem that might otherwise have gone unnoticed for another year.

Our founder and head vet, Jason Way, holds the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine and has 30 years’ experience.

Kitten vaccinations

Kittens need a short course of vaccinations rather than a single visit. At the first appointment we’ll check your kitten over, confirm the right schedule for them, and book the next dose before you leave so nothing slips.

It’s also a good moment to cover the things new kitten owners tend to ask about: parasite control, microchipping, neutering, and getting your kitten used to the carrier early — which makes every future visit easier.

Booster vaccinations for adult cats

Adult cats don’t all need the same thing every year. At your cat’s booster appointment, the vet will look at when they were last vaccinated and with what, their age and general health, and how much contact they have with other cats. We’ll explain exactly what your cat is having, why, and when their next one is due.

If a booster has lapsed, bring your cat in and we’ll advise whether they can simply pick up where they left off or need to restart.

Vaccinations for indoor and outdoor cats

An indoor-only cat in a flat and a confident outdoor cat who shares the garden with the neighbours’ cats face different risks, so their vaccination plans often differ. We’ll ask how your cat lives and recommend accordingly, rather than applying one protocol to every cat.

What happens at a cat vaccination appointment?

1. Before you arrive. Bring your cat in a secure carrier — our team is happy to advise on carriers and travel if your cat finds the journey hard. If your cat is nervous, tell us when you book. We can offer a quieter appointment time and, for very anxious cats, discuss medication to give at home beforehand.

2. On arrival. Reception will settle you in our cat-only waiting area, away from waiting dogs.

3. Settling in. In the consulting room we let your cat come out of the carrier in their own time. Many cats are happiest examined in the bottom half of their carrier, and we’re perfectly content to work that way.

4. The health check. Working at your cat’s pace, the vet checks weight and body condition, coat, eyes, ears, mouth and teeth, listens to the heart and chest, feels the abdomen and checks the joints.

5. History and lifestyle. We’ll talk through previous vaccinations, any changes at home, appetite, drinking, litter tray habits and how your cat spends their time.

6. The vaccination. Given quickly and gently, with your cat in whatever position they’re most comfortable.

7. Afterwards. We’ll tell you what (if anything) to look out for over the next day or so, update your cat’s records, and confirm when the next vaccination is due. If the health check turns up anything that needs further investigation, we’ll explain the options and costs before anything goes ahead.

What our Cat Friendly Clinic accreditation means for your cat

We hold ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic Silver accreditation, renewed for 2026. In practice, that means separate cat and dog waiting areas, feline-friendly consulting rooms, gentle low-stress handling, a team trained to read feline behaviour, and unhurried appointments that give your cat time to settle. Our Head Veterinary Nurse, Melissa Barnett, is the practice’s Cat Advocate and helps make sure those standards are part of every feline visit — vaccinations included.

How much do cat vaccinations cost?

The cost depends on what your cat needs, so please call us on 0203 603 4843 or get in touch for a quote. We’ll always tell you the cost before anything goes ahead.

Vaccinations through our health plan. The Whisker & Woof Platinum Health Plan covers your kitten’s full vaccination course, then your cat’s annual vaccination and comprehensive health check, alongside advanced flea, worm and tick treatment, free microchipping, and 10% off dental treatment and neutering. The cost is spread across the year by monthly direct debit. The plan covers preventative care; it doesn’t cover consultations, diagnostic tests or treatment if your cat becomes unwell, which is what pet insurance is for.

• their vaccination card or records, if you have them
• the name of their previous practice, so we can request history if needed
• details of any reaction to a previous vaccine
• a note of any medication your cat is currently taking

Can you vaccinate a nervous cat? Yes. Tell us when you book and we’ll plan a quieter visit, work at your cat’s pace, and discuss pre-visit medication if needed.

Do I need to be registered first? It helps. Register online before your first appointment and we’ll have everything ready.

My cat’s records are from another vet. Is that OK? Of course. Bring what you have and we’ll build from there.

Is the vaccination included in the health plan? Yes — kitten courses, annual boosters and the health check that goes with them are all part of the Platinum Health Plan.
