Helping You Take Your Pet Safely Around the World

At Whisker & Woof, we understand that your pet is part of the family — and that when you travel, you want them to come along too. Navigating the rules for taking pets abroad can be complicated, but we’re here to make the process smooth, stress-free, and fully compliant with all regulations.

Export Health Certificates (EHCs)

If you are travelling with your pet outside the European Union, you will usually need an Export Health Certificate (EHC).
We can:

  • Give broad advice on the requirements of your destination country

  • Complete and certify your EHC

  • Help with the timing of vaccinations, parasite treatments, and any blood tests that may be required

  • Guide you through the official process so that your paperwork is correct and accepted at your destination

Each country has different rules, so it’s important to contact us well in advance of your travel date — ideally at least 3 months before departure. For specific or complicated exports — for example, to Australia or New Zealand — we recommend that clients use the services of a dedicated pet travel company to ensure every step of the process is completed correctly and on time.

Animal Health Certificates (AHCs)

For travel to EU countries or Northern Ireland, pets must now have an Animal Health Certificate (AHC).
We provide:

  • A fully completed, DEFRA-approved AHC

  • Verification of your pet’s microchip

  • Check and update of rabies vaccinations (must be valid at the time of travel)

  • Advice on tapeworm treatment requirements for certain countries (e.g., Ireland, Finland, Malta, Norway)

AHCs must be issued within 10 days of your departure, so early booking is essential.

Our Approach

Travelling with pets can be stressful — but with the right preparation, it doesn’t have to be. We will:

  • Take care of the legal paperwork

  • Make sure your pet is fit and healthy for travel

  • Provide clear, step-by-step guidance so you know exactly what to do before, during, and after your trip

When to Contact Us

Because requirements can change at short notice, we recommend contacting us as soon as you know you are planning to travel. This allows time for:

  • Rabies vaccinations (and 21-day waiting period if needed)

  • Blood tests for certain destinations

  • Coordinating paperwork with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA)

Why Choose Us

  • Experienced vets familiar with international travel rules

  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK government and EU requirements

  • Compassionate handling to keep your pet calm during the process

  • Smooth communication with you at every stage
